Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and Ladakh UT will come into being on 31st October 2019. The Special status for the erstwhile state of J&K was ended on 5th August 2019. 

Its recent history starts with the brief Independence in 1947, the capture of western parts by irregular Pakistani militia, Accession of the whole state to India, 1947-8 Indo-Pak war, UN-mandated standstill and loss of some parts to China in 1962 & 1963. 

On the Indian side, there was the Nehru-Sheikh Abdullah love feud, Pakistan's bid to capture the state by the 1965 war, and the 1975 accord with Sheikh Abdullah. It was followed by Muslim rule by two valley-based political families, wherein there was further radicalisation by Islamic and Pakistani fractions, Kashmiri Pandit genocide by Muslim neighbours, Pandit exodus under Governor Jagmohan's rule (which saves countless lives), and then an insurgency was started against the Indian state with massive loss of civilian and military lives. 

In particular, there were targeted killings of pro-Indian Muslims along with other faiths, and mafia-type civilian harassment, by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists and self-appointed freedom fighters. Pakistan army through its frequent cease-fire violations was at pains to target Hindu villages in Jammu border with mortar shelling and cross-border raids. What propagated was a heady mix of large contingents of Central security forces, huge transfers of Central funds, official appeasement and soft support for separatists at all levels, further Islamic radicalisation, wanton corruption & money laundering, poor governance, lack of equal democratic rights and civilian protections, and open meddling in the affairs of the J&K state and India, by Pakistan, China, United States, United Kingdom and other countries.

The decision to remove the special status has been a body blow and a mental shock to Pakistan. Pakistan threatens to double down on its virulent interference in Kashmir valley -- with its spread of terror and nuclear blackmail -- and also claims to be the innocent party that is pained by civilian suffering!! It declares the legal right over J&K land on account of Islamisation that it fostered, but is not interested in resettling the pro-Pak Islamists. Pakistan is an abnormal, delusional state and gives a bad name to Islam and everything associated to it. Pakistan has been found lacking in military courage, military capability, diplomacy, strategic thought-processes and human decency and yet acts exactly the opposite. If India does what Pakistan has done to it for all the years since Independence, Pakistan will cease to exist, its generals will be hanged and its people will be made to forget Islam forever.
