Food processing and Integrated cold chain projects are critical to fast-track Indian agriculture & economy. WHY?
Create AGRI VALUE by reducing waste
Post-harvest losses which currently are Rs.92,000 crores annually

High HUMAN impact
Employment of 3.5 lakh and benefit to 15 lakh farmers, from projects saving Rs.35,000 crores of waste.

EXPORTS & INCLUSIVE GROWTH
Regional foods, processed close-by creating local wealth and traded across India & globe.

234 Cold Chain Projects are underway—101 new projects—& 42 Mega Food Parks with the capacity to process 14m MT and save 1/3 of food losses (Rs 35,000 crore).

Cold chains are important for reducing waste, preserving freshness or quality and inter-seasonal storage. Lack of cold storage is very much felt in a hot weather country like India. Food parks are set up to target food waste and create value. Back linkage to farms should aim for operational benefits and farmer benefits. Food parks are integrated with logistics, with or without cold chain, and wholesale markets. There are many opportunities to set up food processing units. For that, new clusters along with linkages have to be identified.
